TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND HOW DID THE IDEA OF BERKAHJAYA BIKE CAME ABOUT
We come from various backgrounds, Omar from the F&B industry, Andra from sport photography, Angga & Kevin from the creative industry but what we have in common is bicycles. Berkah Jaya Bike was born during the pandemic, one year ago. Our idea emerged to answer the needs of cyclists, where at that time many bicycle repair shops were full of job orders, we finally established Berkah Jaya Bike, bengkel dan warung sepeda.
WHAT DOES YOUR JOB ENTAIL YOU TO DO?
When we're not hanging out at the workshop, we're back to our daily job in creative agency and f&b industries.
WHAT MODE OF TRANSPORT DO YOU COMMUTE IN? WHY?
For short distances we always use bicycles because traffic conditions are quite heavy, so cycling can save time and costs:Most of our crews use bike for daily commuting. But it's been a weekly agenda for BJB's crews to invite cyclist community and to ride together around the city, cars.
AS EVERYONE IS GOING OUTDOORS, HOW CAN WE BE MINDFUL OF THE OUTDOOR SPACES WE VISIT? WHAT INITIATIVE TO TAEK AND HOW DO WE PREPARE?
We always pay attention to cleanliness and tidiness, including by bringing our own reusable bags, bidon/bottles and eating utensils. We are starting to greatly reduce waste and the use of plastic packaging or utensils in any form.
WHAT'S YOUR TAKE ON SUSTAINABLE LIVING?
Very interesting, some of us have started to find out and try to learn it. At the workshop we collect plastic waste then give it to the waste bank for recycling and we also provide a water station for guests or cyclists to fill their water bidon.
AS AN ENTREPRENEUR, HOW DO YOU KEEP YOURSELF AND THE TEAM CREATIVE MOJO FLOWING?
Of course, by continuing to cycle together.. Haha, whether for exercise or just a culinary tour. Sometimes we even cycle out of town, to find a new and fresh atmosphere, and The key is to stay open minded. As a new player, we always learn from our seniors in bicycle scene and try to gain insights from the existing community. Explore what we can do better or how to serve the community well.
RESTRICTIONS IN PLACE, WHAT'S NEXT FOR BJB?
We continue to serve our customers, of course, by implementing the applicable health protocols. but from a business perspective, we are now starting to develop not only a bicycle repair shop but also a sportainment division and in the near future hopefully there will be a club house in Yogyakarta, as well as a branch in one of the areas in Jakarta.
